Reverend Dr. Clayton E. Taylor, Sr.


Reverend Clayton Eugene Taylor, Sr.
is the Senior Pastor of the Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church of East Point Georgia. He was born in Pineville, Louisiana to the parentage of the late Reverend Rosenthal Taylor and Mrs. Bessie Lillian Taylor and reared in Houston, Texas.  Rev. Taylor is the product of the Houston public school and a graduate of Jack Yates Senior High School.  Upon graduation, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Religion.  Also, he attended Morehouse Theological Center where he received a Masters of Divinity degree in Parish Ministry and Pastoral Counseling (1974).  He earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Anchor Seminary and Bible Institute in Texarkana, Arkansas (1984).

Reverend Taylor has been actively involved in the work of the church.  He served as President of the Youth Division of the General Miss. Baptist State Conv. of Texas.  In 1963, he was selected as a delegate to the Baptist World Youth Conf. in Beirut, Lebanon. He was licensed and ordained into the Christian Ministry at the Greater Zion Miss. Baptist Church in Houston, Texas under the mentorship of the late Reverend Dr. M. L. Price.  While a student at Morehouse, he served as a Chapel assistant to Dr. Sam Williams, the college minister. In March 1966, he was called to the pastorate of the Saint Paul Miss. Baptist Church of East Point, GA. and continues to serve until the present.

Reverend Taylor is a member of numerous organizations, including the Metro Atlanta Baptist Minister’s Union, Concerned Black Clergy of Atlanta, NAACP, General Miss. Baptist Conv. of GA, National Baptist Con., USA, Inc., W.C. Thomas Lodge #112, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.   He served as the Chairman of the J. F. Kennedy Advisory Board Prescription Learning Program, member of the Advisory Board of Morehouse School of Medicine Imani Project, and Vice-Moderator of the Mount Calvary Miss. and Educational Assoc.  He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors.  He was honored by Gospel Award Today Magazine, and was recognized as one of the most influential African-American Minister, in Atlanta.  In January 2008, he served as the Chairman of the Welcome Program Committee, for the 2nd historic joint Mid -Winter Board meeting of the four National Baptist Convention in America, on April 3, 2008 he was inducted into the Martin Luther King Board of Preachers at Morehouse College, and he presently serves as the President of the 5th District Congress of Christian Education of the General Missionary Baptist Convention.  He is married to the former Christine Davis.  They have five children and beautiful grandchildren.
